The cabin, placed in the Setia Alam Central Park carpark, off Jalan Setia Indah U13/10 was meant for recyclables such as paper and glass.

However, bulk waste, non-recyclable items and recyclables that have yet to be sorted were dumped in and around the cabin.

Shah Alam City councillor Simon Siow said the situation was upsetting.

MBSA collects items from the recycling cabin every Tuesday and Saturday.

“I hope residents will cooperate with the council and not burden them with extra cleaning,” he said, adding that rubbish collection rounds had to be increased at the cabin area daily.

MBSA green ambassador for Setia Alam Shahrul Mohd Yusoff said he monitored the cabin and had seen many dump their rubbish around the cabin or place non-recyclable items into the compartments.

His point was proven during a recent site visit, where he pulled out a guitar wrapped in plastic and looked brand new, from the compartment meant for paper.

An officer from the local council’s Waste Management and Public Cleansing Department said the RM16,000 cabin was only placed there temporarily as MBSA was looking to build a recycling centre there later this year.

The officer advised residents to sort their recyclables and place the items in designated compartments.

MBSA offers bulk waste collection services during festive seasons including Hari Raya, Chinese New Year and Deepavali.

The local council also provides disposal of garden and bulk waste over the set limit for houses, for a fee.
